Privacy policy

Kinroots is built around a simple rule: your family archive belongs to you. This page explains what we collect, why, and the controls you have.

What we collect

  • Account: the email address and display name you sign up with.
  • Family tree records: the names, dates, places, occupations and notes you enter for your ancestors and relatives.
  • Payment: handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.

How we use it

Your records are used only to run your family tree — to build charts, calculate relationships, and power the Kin Network. We never sell your data, and we never use it to train models or show advertising.

The Kin Network & sharing

By default your tree is completely private — no other member can see it. Only when you subscribe to Kin Plus are your ancestors opted into the Kin Network so relatives can find shared branches.

  • Free members searching the Kin Network see only a teaser: name and birth year. Birthplace, maiden name and the tree owner stay hidden.
  • Kin Plus members see fuller details and can preview a merge — but a branch is only ever copied into your tree when you choose to merge it.

Your choices

  • Delete your account at any time from Settings. This permanently removes your tree and account.
  • Disable Kin Network discoverability by cancelling Kin Plus. Your ancestors stop appearing in other people's searches; nothing else changes.
  • Export a copy of your tree while on Kin Plus if you want a permanent record.

Cookies & authentication

We use a single session cookie that keeps you signed in. We do not use third-party tracking or advertising cookies.
